What to Know as a First Time Parent When Talking Speech and Language
If youβre a first time parent, welcome!! One of my favorite aspects of the job as speech language pathologist is supporting parents and educating them on what to look for to support speech and language in their littles!
The first few weeks of life, communication is already forming! Itβs one of the first connectors we have to our babies. Those first cries, coos, and smiles- they are the foundational building blocks for functional communication down the line!
As a mom of three (three and under!) I use my speech therapy background every day while supporting speech and language with my little ones at home.
Did you know that before those first words, there are building blocks we can be supporting in the first year of life to make acquiring language a bit easier?
These are called Pre-linguistic skills and they include skills such as joint attention, imitation, vocal turn taking, expressive and receptive language and so much more!
If youβre interested in learning more, we are here to help. Take a look at the tiny talker playbook and feel empowered when supporting your little one!
